BONTANG CITY

The existence of LNG industry in Bontang have become the center of focus which helping Bontang Area which was formerly empty, isolated and less populated in 1970, now have been developed into an autonomous and independent city with population of more than 135,000 people.


The government has opened the area by built highway from Samarinda, the capital city of East Kalimantan Province, to Bontang. Bontang people are mostly came from other more populated areas in Indonesia. Currently they are at least become the resident of 3 sub districts, namely South Bontang, North Bontang, and West Bontang in Bontang City.


Despite the above, there are some similarities between the 2 types communities, including the fact that all residents came from difference areas, and occupying the same area which is developing as their domicile. They have the same spirit, to develop and grow together. Such spirit becomes the basis for PT Badak NGL whom had been a part of the community of the larger Bontang City, to provide contribution for the development of the city.

In its commitment to the surrounding environment, PT Badak NGL has organized environmental development programs, covering infrastructures, education, health, religious, youth, sport, support for the handicapped, poverty elevation, community empowerment and business opportunity. The surrounding people may enjoy the facilities, infrastructures being developed, as well as bridges and fishermen wharf construction.

Donation for education and research are distributed through scholarships for Elementary, Junior High School, Senior High School students through out Bontang City and the students of University of Mulawarman, State Polytechnics and Samarinda Agricultural Polytechnic.

Besides, already constructed several SD and SMP Buildings and implemented physical rehabilitation to poor condition of elementary schools in Bontang city. The assistance patterns are in term of direct assistance, assistance through cooperation with university and institutions and the accompanying assistance. The care of PT Badak NGL on health issues is increasingly implemented. It its reflected from health service activity in relative underdeveloped villages. Promotion about narcotics and hazardous drugs is other term of health activity which are routinely implemented. Besides, one unit ambulance each for Tanjung Laut and Bontang Baru Community Health Centers were provided, as well as the development of Posyandu (Community Integrated Health Service) building at Kadere Bay, Sekambing Village.

In implementing the empowerment of community economic potential, a cooperation has been organized with National Family Plan Coordinating Agency (BKKBN) and Bank Perkreditan Rakyat (BPR) in the form of revolving fund assistance for Poverty Elevation program to Pre Prosperous and Pre Prosperous I families within South Bontang area. Besides, PERTAMINA, through PT Badak NGL has also distributed revolving capital assistance to Small Scale Business and Cooperation in Bontang City.
